WE ADVICED HIM SEVERALLY BUT HE WASNT READY TO LISTEN – RAPHEAL’S MUM REVEALS

Mother of Raphael Dwamena, former black stars forward who passed away on the pitch during a game in Albania has opened up on how she received the news of the sad demise of her son over the weekend.

On Tuesday, Ruby Akakpo, mother of the deceased revealed on Onua Sports stated that she spoke to her son just last Thursday, two days before the sad incident occurred.

“I talked to Nana Kwame on Thursday,” he told host Captain Smart, adding that the footballer was the type in constant touch with his family.

“He talks to me all the time on video call,” she said.

According to Ruby Akakpo, the deceased footballer will not miss the opportunity to call her via video from the dressing room after every game, sharing his experiences about what went on well and what did not on the pitch.

She said she was looking forward to one of such hearty chats when the sad incident was heard on Saturday, November 11.

She said the family heard of the incident on social media and had to make contact with his manager to confirm.

They have since not officially heard from his club, KF Egnatia.

Rapheal collapsed on the pitch in the 23rd minute as KF Egnatia was taking on Partizani in the Albanian league. He was given on-field medical care but was pronounced dead while being transported to the Kavaje Hospital. Dwamena signed for FK Egnatia in 2022, making a total of 37 appearances and scoring 24 goals. His club is currently top of the Albanian league and he was the leading scorer with 9 goals prior to his demise. He was one of two players who have registered hat-tricks in the 2023/24 season so far. Dwamena’s heart condition was detected after medicals with English Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion, forcing the deal to be cancelled in 2017.

He, however, went on to later sign for Levante in the Spanish La Liga from FC Zurich. He also played for Real Zaragoza in Spain, Vejle in Denmark, FC Blau Weiss Linz in Austria, BSC Old Boys in Switzerland and most recently KF Egnatia.

His mother said the family advised him about his heart condition but he did not want to hide such a talent. “So, we allowed him to play until a time when he will voluntarily stop.”
